Venue Requirements |
|
Walking Forward prides itself in the adaptability of its productions. Venues as diverse as school halls, churches, hotel conference suites, purpose built theatres, to helicopter landing pads in Bosnia, have all been successfully used.
Generally speaking, the better the environment the easier it is to view the plays at their best. The ideal situation is a purpose built theatre with comfortable raked seating, full blackout facilities and a dressing room. But we’re realists. Life is never that easy!
A cleared space 25 feet x 25 feet is generally required with access to 240 volt power sockets. There should be sufficient sockets on separate ring mains to allow for powerful portable theatre lights, sound equipment and instruments.
The company tours with an array of extension cables, spares, gaffer and masking tape. Floor cloths, used to delineate playing areas, are always fixed using masking tape to avoid damage to polished or delicate floors.
There should, of course be room for the audience. Adults and secondary students should always be seated on chairs. CAT NINELIVES is our only production where children can sit on a clean floor. Seating must be laid out in accordance with the seating plans shown on the website (seating layout).
Walking Forward will always ensure that fire exits remain clear and that power, sound and lighting cables are secured. Venues should also keep access and exits clear when putting out seating for our visit.
Please note that all Walking Forward’s equipment is PAT tested in accordance with current legislation. Walking Forward also have full liability cover to £5,000,000.
Tea, coffee or refreshments are always greatly appreciated during the set up and after the performance. It is worth mentioning at this point that show times within schools should always be booked for 10am and 2pm only. Although this may not always be viable we strongly recommend that that these are the options given to schools upon booking.

Our fleet of specially adapted touring vehicles, converted to M3 standards, can be anything up to 22 feet in length. Therefore access should be clear and as close to the chosen venue as possible.
Some of our equipment is heavy and awkward and for that reason, locations on ground level and wide doors are advantageous.
All actors are asked to study and sign a company behavioural policy document, outlining Health & Safety issues regarding setting up shows and a code of conduct for acceptable behaviour within the workplace. |
